How to display art

So you’ve finally found that art print you’ve been searching for. It arrives in the post. You’ve carefully unwrapped it and it's lying on your kitchen table. Now what?
What frame are you going to use? How on earth do you hang it? Where should I hang it?
How an artwork is framed and displayed on the wall can be as important as the artwork itself and can impact the look and feel of your overall space.
Here’s a few ideas:
Display with other objects on shelving
Pair with other interior objects you love. It will tell a beautiful visual story. Ensure the colour palette doesn’t clash with the colours in your print. Remember not to overcrowd the space, knowing when enough is enough is important.
Scale your art to your space
You don’t want your art print lost on a wall. It needs to be proportioned. Don’t be afraid to go large in a small space. But try to avoid small or busy prints as these can make the room appear even smaller.
Modern gallery walls
Gallery walls may be losing their appeal with interior designers but they are adored for good reason. They can tell our life story. Be a reflection of our personality. Mix in large scale pieces with smaller personal mementos to add a modern vibe. Run them the length and height of your wall too for a bigger impact.
Smart grid
If you have a series of images on a theme, a grid layout can work. Grid-style formats will create an elegant and streamlined look. This works particularly well in bedrooms, kitchens and hallways.
Balance vs Symmetry
Symmetrical layouts are tried and trusted. However, sometimes it works better to offset the work to create balance in a room. Look to balance it with furniture in your room or the architecture of the space. Hang artwork that corresponds to viewpoints and vistas.
Do the unexpected
Place your artwork in unexpected places. You can use your art to brighten up any room or space. A fabulous way to bring personality to your space. Why not hang a piece of art above the sink in your kitchen so you can look at something beautiful when you’re doing a boring chore.
In the end it comes down to personal choice. Display it where it will give you the most enjoyment. Art should make you happy every time you see it.
